Three years ago I had the privilege of photographing this little boy’s big brother, so naturally I was thrilled when Mom contacted me to schedule a shoot for Baby {M}. Newborn sessions with siblings are always more chaotic, but watching an older sibling(s) interact with their new sibling(s) can be beautiful. This session was full of sweet sibling moments. I started the session with sibling and family shots, as I prefer to do when there are younger siblings that will likely be tired by the end of the session. This worked out well for this family. We did a few standing poses and some sitting poses. The sitting poses create a safer space for the siblings to interact.
After sibling poses we moved on to parent poses. I shot parent poses til Baby {M} got hungry and needed to eat. Baby {M} was a bit more unsettled than his big brother. His older brother did well with being handled and shaped into various newborn poses. Baby {M} posed wonderful for his chin in hands poses, but seemed to have more interest in what was going on around him than in sleeping. I captured two poses of him on his belly before he woke. The first was in a beautiful green sage wrap and hat set, the second was my darling hungry caterpillar set.
He wasn’t having much of the posing after that. We fed him and tried soothing him back to sleep, but he was wide awake. I swaddled him and photographed some of him awake. It doesn’t happen often, but sometimes you get a baby who is awake, but calm enough to photograph with their eyes open. I captured him looking at the camera with the same lion toy I photographed his big brother with. I love when I can create similarities between sibling newborn sessions. We finished the session with some wrapped basket poses after he finally fell back asleep.
