Casey Family Maternity

I first photographed the Casey family in 2021 when they were expecting their first child. I have since photographed many more sessions for them and it has always been a joy. This session was a maternity and family session comprised of a studio session and outdoor session. We combined family and mom portraits in each session and the studio session turned out very artistic, which always fills my soul. Since our session took place in February I wanted to include some red and a little bit of romance, but I also wanted to make it very feminine. I created that by adding floral digital backdrops.

I photographed mom in several of my beautiful studio gowns and she picked a beautiful mint lace gown for family portraits. My goal for family portraits with a toddler was loving interaction. I captured some beautiful interaction between mom and son, and their family of three before baby arrived. For me, the most important thing about these sessions is capturing the natural and loving interactions.

The outdoor session was taken in Eltville. They specifically requested Eltville castle along the Rhein, a very popular shooting location. The castle unfortunately didn’t open until far after sunset so we had to start the session much later than I normally shoot sunrise sessions. Having lived in Germany for 4 years, I have lost my talent for shooting in the bright Arizona sun. Of course in Arizona I had tall saguaros to diffuse my light. In spite of the bright sun we made it work and I used what I had available. I’m not a fan of harsh shadows and orange light, but I think they turned out beautiful. We ended the session with a few more family shots on the darling streets of old town Eltville.
