I photographed Baby Tyler last May and am posting today because he just celebrated his first birthday. This past Sunday I photographed his cake smash session, photos coming soon. His newborn session, like his cake smash session, featured a sport theme. Tyler came to see me when he was over a month old. Newborn sessions are always a toss-up as to whether a baby will sleep or not, but the older a baby gets to more likely they are to be awake.
He was indeed quite awake at the beginning of our session. Mom and dad followed all of my newborn prep tips, but he was not ready to sleep yet. I began with table poses in a cute little pant and suspender outfit. He was very mobile in addition to quite awake, but I managed to capture a few images of him looking directly at the camera. These are some of my favorites from the session. I also captured a few in my moon prop, but I wasn’t able to pose him so I am going to leave those out of this blog post.
After a bit of work to calm him and get him to sleep, I resorted to wrapping. Although I love getting parents posed naked shots, wrapped poses are the easiest for everyone. While wrapped, babies feel secure like they are once again in the womb and in all but a few babies I have photographed, they go right to sleep. Tyler eventually fell into a comfortable sleep and we began again on my flokati. Tyler’s dad works with airplanes so I chose my little knit pilot cap for his first flokati images. Next, I incorporated a plush toy baseball his parents brought. I followed with bed and bucket posed and finished parent shots.
