Booking Your Senior Session
When is the Best Time to Book?
It’s that time of year again, back-to-school. Although it’s only July, your senior year will be filled with school, sports, clubs, events, travel, spending time with friends and family, and planning for next year. Before you know it, spring will arrive and you will be graduating. Don’t get caught up in the excitement of your senior year and forget to book your senior portrait session. Start planning for your senior portraits NOW!
Book early! Good senior photographers book-up months in advance. Start scouting for your photographer as soon as possible. Do your own research. A friend or a sibling may have beautiful senior photos, but there may be another photographer that is more your style. One of the best places to check out a photographer’s work is on Instagram. Search #tucsonseniorphotographer. Once you decide on a photographer, or two, chat with your parents, discuss budget, etc. it’s time to think about WHEN you would like your photos taken.
This is going to depend on where you want your session. Here in Tucson there are a few scenery options. Desert, mountains, golf courses, parks, downtown, the University of Arizona…so many incredible locations. Summer is a beautiful time for a desert session, because of monsoon season. You have storms, desert plants blooming, and the temperatures are more moderate. Fall is beautiful in the mountains and makes for dramatic and color rich photos. Since Tucson has such nice winters, parks, golf courses and urban locations are perfect year-round.
If you’re unsure of where you might want to have your photos taken, start thinking about the look you want for your photos. Do you want glamour, casual, light and airy, dramatic? Do you want to incorporate a favorite hobby or sport?
What is a must? Book before March. Most senior photos are due by the end of April or early May. Booking anytime after March puts your photos in jeopardy of not being ready by graduation. Even March can be too late depending on your photographer’s work load and turn-around time.
