Christina’s Maternity Session
Christina contacted me inquiring about a maternity session. She only wanted one thing, however, a dress toss. Christina had already had maternity photos done, but due to wind had ruined her dress toss. Being that this was likely her last pregnancy, it was the one photo she wanted to have. At first, she was only interested in a studio session fearing a repeat with the wind. We messaged back and forth with photos and a description of the dress, discussing options for her shoot. She was concerned the dress was too heavy. It was a jersey fabric, which is a little heavier than some maternity dress fabrics, but still tossable. Since we both lived a short distance from Saguaro National Park, I offered an indoor make-up session in case outdoors didn’t work.
The day we met was beautiful with only a slight breeze. Christina’s husband and toddler joined us for the session, and we worked together while Christina posed. I shot and he tossed the skirt of her maternity gown. I directed him to toss this way and that way. A little higher, a little lower, a little left, a little right…the man did a wonderful job, both with tossing and being patient with my demands. The wind created a few challenges with the skirt, but we captured some beautiful tosses.
I wanted Christina to have variety so I brought a second dress and we moved to another location. Christina was a wonderful sport as I walked them across a rocky hiking trail through jumping cholla, her toddler in tow. We did more dress tossing, her toddler even helping to toss, and captured her with a glorious sunset. It was a magical evening, and she got her dress toss photos.
