Neighborhood Senior Session

A senior girl during her senior session at Civano

When Maria contacted me to photograph her daughter’s senior portraits I was naturally thrilled. Senior sessions are some of my favorites because I get to capture the energy and excitement as the senior transitions from one phase of their life to another. I get to capture their personality, passions, and what makes them unique. Senior sessions are just fun. This session was one of my shorter sessions, but I love how they turned out. Maria decided on the Civano neighborhood of Tucson, which is also one of my favorite places in Tucson. The neighborhood is filled with colorful homes, greenery, and neat visual treats not found anywhere else. It’s great for senior sessions, because there is so much visual variety in a small area.

We began near the center of the neighborhood. We shot her session in October and in typical Tucson fall fashion, the weather was amazing. Cooler, yet warm, and flowers still blooming beautifully everywhere. Her first outfit was a professional look of black and white so I focused on photographing her surrounded by color. I photographed her next to colorful homes, bougainvillea, roses, green cactus and more. Her second outfit was a soft and floral feminine dress. I photographed her against simple backgrounds that provided less contrast. Our session was short, only 30 minutes, so we didn’t walk far. Thanks to this amazing neighborhood I captured a lot of variety in a small space. Proof that you don’t need an amazing or perfect backdrop to capture an incredible photo session.

We ended her session as the sun was setting and the moon was rising. It was a big, beautiful, and bright October moon so naturally I had to add it to the session. My last shot was a quick walking shot with a flirty over-the-shoulder smile.
