Anica’s Maternity Session
At the beginning of the year, I ran a small contest on Instagram for a free maternity session. Anica, a local blogger, was the winner. As she was coming close to her due date, we didn’t have much time. We were able to find a date both of us were available, but only if it were a sunrise session. Being the morning person, and natural early riser I am, I was thrilled to do a morning session. She decided on Gates Pass for her session location, and we met just before sunset. We had pre-coordinated which of my maternity gowns she wanted to wear, but we hadn’t thought about the cool morning desert temps. It was freezing, but thankfully she had brought a warm and glamorous fur jacket.
When she donned the jacket, my vision for her session changed. I knew the images had to be stunning, pairing the breathtaking scenery of the desert with her now glamorous style. Our session was short, but full. We began before the sun crested over Gates Pass with some gorgeous images of Anica in the desert with the brilliant pink hues of sunrise. I then captured her in the middle of the road with the expanse of Gates Pass behind her. As we moved across the road I noticed a large number of blooming yellow desert plants, so I had her pose to capture the brilliant blooms.
As the sun creeped over the mountains, we explored the desert scenery incorporating the abundant cactus and mountains of Gates Pass behind her. I even captured her with snow-covered desert mountains in the distant background. We finished with a few shots of Anica on a fur blanket in the parking lot. She looking like a radiant expectant goddess.
