The family who drinks together…
I always get a little nervous before meeting a client for the first time. What are they like? Will I meet their expectations? Can I capture them accurately? The Lindley family booked one of my holiday specials and we scheduled right before Christmas 2018–yes, I’m finally blogging about it now in July. The day of their session my nerves were a bit frayed, a combination of exhaustion from my busy fall season and typical holiday craziness. Their session was the last before I started my Christmas break, and my son’s birthday was the following day. As much as I hate to say it, I wasn’t focused and was especially worried I wouldn’t be able to capture them well.
As I walked to greet them at our shoot location I noticed they were all wearing plaid shirts and jeans. It was cute and fun, which ended up matching their personalities perfectly. We had a few minutes to chat before the shoot as we waited for two of the men to arrive from their golf game. They were sweet and incredibly pleasant to chat with, and instantly put me at ease. The men arrived and it wasn’t long before I was placing them together for some family shots. About 10 minutes in, much to my surprise and delight, they started pulling beers out of a cooler. I giggled and my first thought was, these are my people.
