Breastfeeding Desert Beauty
A Breastfeeding and Family Session in the Sonoran Desert
A few weeks ago I had the honor of capturing a beautiful milestone, a darling little girl’s first birthday. It was also a celebration of her being breastfed for one year. As a fellow breastfeeding mother, this is a significant milestone that I love getting the opportunity to photograph.
I met Ashley earlier in the summer when I gifted an event with a breastfeeding session in support of breastfeeding. As luck would have it, this kind and beautiful mom was selected.
Sabino Canyon was her location of choice. With it’s majestic saguaros and breathtaking views, she loved the idea of a grand style for her photos. The location was also special because it was where her husband had proposed to her.
In true Tucson fashion our November session date was sunny and warm affording Ashley the opportunity to dress in a gorgeous pale pink and beaded gown. Perfectly matched were her daughter and husband, her daughter wearing a pale pink dress of her own, and her husband in a light grey suit.
Unfortunately for us, baby smiles were fleeting that day. Having just woken from a nap upon arrival to Sabino Canyon, and not being able to play in the dirt, Ashley’s sweet daughter was not thrilled about photos. She wasn’t overly interested in eating either, more interested in her surroundings than mom. She DID enjoy looking at leaves, some active playtime with dad and eventually getting to play in the dirt.
My focus changed from posed images to more candid shots. I wanted to at least capture the three of them as a family, enjoying one another and an evening outdoors. Although the session was shorter than I would have liked, I captured some sweet memories for them.
I am so thankful to have met Ashley and her family. They were sweet, kind, patient and understanding, and I hope that I am able to work with them again one day.
