Voyage Phoenix Magazine Feature

Featured by Voyage Phoenix Magazine

This week I was featured by Voyage Phoenix magazine. Voyage Phoenix is a magazine that features local businesses and artists in the Phoenix area. I am honored to be featured. Here are some highlights of the article.

“Heather, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.

My photography journey began 20 years ago when I joined the Air Force. I started taking photos to capture my travels to places like Thailand, Europe, Kuwait, Korea, Japan and Guam. I used disposable film cameras until I got my first digital camera in 2003 while stationed in Korea.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?

My photography is my art. It’s not a snapshot. It’s not something that can be created with a phone and good filter. Each of my images is hand edited to capture the feel of the session, the location and my clients. Each session is unique as each client is unique. I want that visually felt in the final product. My goal is to capture not only my clients, but their joy, their fun, their personality, and how that mixes with the environment they have chosen for their session.

What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?

My biggest lesson was learning to collaborate, communicate and connect. I am an introvert and for a long time avoided putting myself ‘out there’. I have learned photography is not a business that can be done without that connection.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?

I would love to collaborate with others who would share my work in a physical space, and hope to make that happen eventually. I have collaborated with local businesses who have shared my work on their digitally platforms, however my ultimate goal is to have photos hanging on walls around town.”

Some of my favorite client photos were featured in the article. The main photo is of my son and I. Although it was taken five years ago, it’s still one of my favorites.
